Why we don't do subscriptions.

Every other dictation app charges $7–$30 per month, forever, whether you use it or not. We thought that was backwards.

HitRec is software. You buy it. You own it. It runs on your computer. When you dictate, your voice goes directly from your machine to OpenAI using your own API key — we never see it, never store it, never bill you for it.

The result: you pay us once, and you pay OpenAI pennies for what you actually speak.

Your usage Subscription tool HitRec (Year 1) HitRec (Year 2+)
30 min/month ~$84/year $39 + ~$2 ~$2/year
2 hours/month ~$84/year $39 + ~$9 ~$9/year
5 hours/month ~$84/year $39 + ~$22 ~$22/year

After month one, HitRec costs less than one coffee per month. For most people, it pays for itself before the first quarterly subscription bill would land.

Built for the writing
you don't want to do.

Most dictation tools are designed for novelists and doctors. HitRec is designed for the other 95% of people — the ones who spend their day typing emails, Slack messages, meeting notes, and status updates they'd rather just say.

Email replies

Knock out a thoughtful response in the time it takes to type "Hi [Name], thanks for reaching out."

First drafts

Proposals, performance reviews, job applications. The blank page is the hardest part. Talk through it first, edit after.

🎓

Meeting notes

Capture the point while it's fresh, instead of five minutes later when you're trying to remember what was decided.

If you've ever opened your laptop to 47 unread emails and wanted to go back to bed — HitRec is for you.

I watched ten people try to
download a file. Then I built this.

It started on a Teams call. I was showing my colleagues a voice-to-text tool — something I thought would help everyone write faster. Ten minutes, quick setup, done.

Ten minutes became an hour. People couldn't find the download. Someone's antivirus flagged it. Two people needed admin permissions they didn't have. We spent most of the call squinting at each other's screens trying to troubleshoot. And the best part? Nobody ever used that tool. Not a single person.

Here's what bugged me after: the technology works. Speaking is three to four times faster than typing. The AI behind it is incredibly accurate. But every tool I found was either too complicated to set up, too expensive to justify, or locked behind a monthly subscription that nobody wanted to add to an already-ridiculous stack of recurring charges.

So I built HitRecNotes. One app. One hotkey. Hold it, speak, release — your words appear wherever your cursor is. Emails, docs, Slack, whatever you're working in. It costs $39, once, and it's yours. No subscription. No usage limits. No asking your manager to approve another monthly charge.

I've been using it every day for months now. It's one of those tools that sounds small until you realize you haven't typed a single email since lunch.

— Marta, builder of HitRecNotes

P.S. If you're one of the people from that Teams call — this one's for you. No troubleshooting required.

Simple by design.
Powerful when you need it.

Accurate, every time

Powered by the same AI behind ChatGPT. Handles accents, adds punctuation, and understands natural speech — no training period needed. Most users see 97% accuracy from the first sentence.

🎯

Text appears where you need it

Your words land exactly where your cursor is. Outlook, Word, Chrome, Teams, Slack, Notion — any app with a text field. No copying. No switching windows. Just talk, and it's there.

⌨️

Two ways to record

Hold a key for quick messages — a Slack reply, a short email. Or toggle on hands-free mode for longer sessions — reports, meeting notes, brain dumps. Whatever fits the moment.

🌍

50+ languages

Speak in English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Polish, or dozens more. The AI detects your language automatically. No settings to change.

🔒

Your audio stays private

Your voice goes directly to the AI for transcription and is immediately deleted. HitRecNotes never sees, stores, or accesses your audio. No screenshots. No tracking. Nothing leaves your control.

💻

Always ready, never in the way

HitRecNotes lives quietly in your system tray. It's there the moment you need it and invisible when you don't. No windows to manage, no app to keep open.

Three seconds to learn.
Forever to use.

1

Hold the hotkey

Default is right-Alt, but you can remap it to anything.

2

Speak naturally

First draft, rambling thought, full email — whatever you need. HitRec is listening.

3

Release

Your words appear wherever your cursor is. Email, Slack, Word, Teams, Notion, the address bar — it doesn't matter. If you can type there, you can dictate there.

That's the whole product. No dashboards. No "projects." No cloud folders to manage. It's a keyboard shortcut that turns your voice into text.

Your voice is your business.

HitRec runs on your computer. When you dictate, your audio goes directly from your machine to OpenAI using your API key — it never passes through our servers, our database, or our logs. We couldn't listen to your dictation if we wanted to.

What HitRec sees: Nothing. The app doesn't phone home with your audio, your transcripts, or your usage.

What OpenAI sees: Your audio, briefly, to transcribe it. Per OpenAI's API policy, audio sent through the API is not used to train models and is deleted after processing.

What we see: A license check when you first activate the app. That's it.

This is the whole reason we don't run our own cloud. It's simpler for us, cheaper for you, and private by design.

Honest comparison.
You decide.

Questions you're probably
about to ask.

What's an OpenAI API key and how do I get one?

It's a string of characters from OpenAI that lets HitRec use their Whisper transcription service on your behalf. Creating one takes about 2 minutes: sign up at platform.openai.com, add a payment method (usually with a $5 minimum), and copy the key into HitRec's settings. We'll walk you through it after you install.

How much will OpenAI actually cost me?

Whisper costs $0.006 per minute of audio. If you dictate 30 minutes a month, that's about 18 cents. An hour a day, 5 days a week? About $7 a month — and you'd pay that to a subscription tool anyway, except OpenAI only charges you for what you actually use.

Is HitRec really one-time? No hidden subscription?

Really. One payment, lifetime access, lifetime updates. The only ongoing cost is whatever you pay OpenAI for the audio you choose to send them.

Why Windows only?

Because I'm one person, and shipping a rock-solid Windows app is a better bet than shipping a half-finished one for three platforms. Mac is on the roadmap. Email me at hello@hitrecnotes.com and I'll let you know when Mac ships.

Does it work offline?

No — transcription requires sending audio to OpenAI's Whisper API, which needs an internet connection. A fully offline version is something I'm exploring for a future release.

What if I don't like it?

30-day refund, no questions asked. Email me at hello@hitrecnotes.com. I'd rather give you your $39 back than have a frustrated user.

Who built this?

Hi, I'm Marta. I built HitRec because I was tired of either paying $15/month forever for dictation or paying $200 once for Dragon and getting a bloated app I didn't need. I wanted something simple that I owned.
